Expert Witness Matters

Carol M. Langford has been an expert witness for both plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of legal malpractice and breach of fiduciary duty matters. She has also testified both at trial and in deposition in matters involving fee disputes. She is experienced in consulting and testifying in matters involving lawyers and their clients, and has evaluated numerous legal malpractice claims.

Fee matters often involve ethics issues that arise from fee agreements, like the meaning of a reasonable fee, disclosure obligations and lien clauses. Ms. Langford keeps abreast of new law and Rules that involve fee agreements, fee sharing, and lien disputes. She will also advise you on how to improve your fee agreements to better ethically communicate your fee arrangements.

Ms. Langford has served as a consulting expert for many large, medium and small firms in California and firms and clients in other states. Ms. Langford has advised and/or testified on the Rules of Professional Conduct in New York matters, Ohio, Nevada, Washington, D.C. and Arizona as she is familiar with both the American Bar Association and California Rules of Professional Conduct.

She is an Adjunct professor of legal ethics both at the University of California Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law and the University of San Francisco School of Law who has co-authored a nationally adopted case book entitled Legal Ethics in the Practice of Law (Lexis, Third Edition).

She has advised and/or testified in matters in California, New York, Ohio, Nevada and Arizona.

She has testified in a variety of matters involving underlying business matters, family law, real estate, intellectual property and other matters. She has testified in state and federal court matters. She has testified in cases where the underlying case has been a transactional matter and where it has been a litigation matter.

Ms. Langford is admitted to the California Bar, the Washington D.C. Bar, the U.S. District Court of California (Eastern and Northern), the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
